Attorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says he cannot understand why the opposition has an obsession with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and blame the institution when something goes wrong.
Sayed-Khaiyum raised this while tabling the Customs Tariff Amendment Bill 2021 which seeks to amend the current provision for the time-frame that a vessel from overseas can remain in Fijian waters and essentially get duty concessions.
He says currently some vessels are already here and would potentially breach the two-year permit.
Sayed-Khaiyum says this bill seeks to allow those people who may have breached the two years to have their vessels in Fiji for five years but they have to meet all normal immigration requirements.
He then said that from last year, over 100 yachts have come to Fiji under the blue lane initiative under various safe measures while working with Fiji Navy.
Sayed-Khaiyum then stated that the opposition is always picking on the RFMF however, SODELA MP Adi Litia Qionibaravi raised a point of order and said that Sayed-Khaiyum is misleading parliament.
