Wherever participation, freedom for people to speak and giving their opinion is denied on decisions, it creates fear and division.
This was stated by the Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji, Archbishop Peter Loy Chong in an interview with Legend FM News while expanding on his Fiji Day opinion piece about Colonialism, Independence, Freedom.
Archbishop Chong says when people are not free, things such as their freedom of speech is denied.
According to him, after the 2006 coup, people were interrogated for speaking out and it is still happening today.
On the issue of him being threatened for speaking out, Archbishop Chong says he was at one time invited to a World Association of Christian Communication and he basically talked about history of politics in Fiji, learning from that history and how we have developed.
He says the government of the day at that time were not happy with that and responded to it.
