Westpac Fiji's participation in community work which includes projects of planting mangroves in Serua repainting the Oncology Ward at Labasa Hospital and making donations to St. Giles Hospital in Suva has surpassed expectations when compared to the previous years.
This was stated by Westpac Fiji Chief Executive, Shane Smith who says this year they have spent over 1,664 hours doing community work.
Shane says annually, Westpac Fiji employees are entitled to one paid leave day Volunteer Leave - to participate in community work with a charity or organisation of their choice.
Shane further adds that community work has the power to humble them and help with team-building skills, collaboration, and the importance of clear communication which are all needed in leadership development for their employees.
He says the bank also designed and put together a Westpac Fiji Volunteer Look Book which contains information on the various community projects undertaken by previous groups as well as new community initiatives and needs and acts as a guide for staff who would like to undertake community work in the years to come.
Westpac Head of Human Resources Patricia Naisara, says she hopes more organisations will take on the the initiative.
