Welcome home Fijian Drua

New oar crafted in Vatukarasa presented for the Na Bole

Welcome home Fijian Drua

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua were accorded a festive welcome home ceremony at the Fiji Museum tonight.

The Drua prayers are home after 6 months in Australia.

Speaking during the welcome ceremony, Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union Commodore Humphrey Tawake says rugby as Fiji's national sport plays a vital role in all Fijian lives and communities.

He says rugby on many occasions have lifted the Fijian spirit and provided comfort in times of national calamity such as the gold medal win during the 2016 Rio Olympics following the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic medal and bronze wins during the peak of COVID-19 in Fiji.

He adds the win of the Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua in the Super W Competition has not only exceeded expectations but they have shown that rugby can be a lever of change.

Captain Nemani Nagusa was also handed a new oar that was crafted in Vatukarasa.

The new oar will be used in every Na Bole the team performs during their home games and it will be uses for the first time this Saturday when the Drua meet the Highlanders.

The oar also has the team virtues printed on it, with the bible verse Pslam 121:1.

Entertainment was provided by the Pasifika Voices which lit up the welcome ceremony and some Drua players also showed off their dance moves.
