Drugs is a major issue in the country, and there are students in schools who come from drug-peddling families and are influencing others to do illegal activities.

An Assistant Principal raised this issue during the budget consultation held with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad in Davuilevu, Nakasi.

He says to deal with such a situation, they require experienced teachers, however, he is providing references to almost six teachers every month who are resigning for greener pastures and this is affecting in disciplining of students.

The Assistant Principal says less experienced teachers are vulnerable in dealing with these issues and the government should look at increasing teachers' pay.

While responding to him, Professor Biman Prasad says that Fiji will not be able to match the salaries given by the New Zealand and Australian governments.

Professor Prasad says they have regularised a lot of the pending teacher salaries, and the discrepancies that were there.
