We don’t see an acute shortage in the labour force in Fiji - IMF
Head of IMF Mission to Fiji, Marshall Mills

The International Monetary Fund says they do not see an acute shortage in the labour force in Fiji at this time but emigration from Fiji is reducing the skilled labour force.

The Head of IMF Mission to Fiji, Marshall Mills says workers migrating has advantages as well as it has strong remittance flows that were a really important buffer during the pandemic.

Mills says it is important that Fijian authorities emphasise training and education in order to maintain a good supply of skilled labourers.

He says they think that historical levels of emigration should not be a significant drag on growth in Fiji.
