Fiji Meteorological Services Director Misaele Funaki says we are now in the transition month from the dry to the rainy season.
This is good news for those in the Western Division that have been experiencing minimal rainfall in the last few months.
Funaki says the minimal reduction in rainfall started around August and September this year.
He says there has not been as much water carting this year compared to last year.
Funaki says people should prepare for above-normal rainfall during the 2020/2021 cyclone season.
In their rainfall outlook, the office says from October to December 2020 and January to March 2021, above-average rainfall is likely across the country.
Fiji Meteorological Service Director Misaele Funaki says this can cause flooding but people should understand that rainfall intensity is not the only thing that should be taken into account when you are looking at flooding.
He says there are other factors people should be looking at now as they prepare.
The Nadi Weather Office has predicted that one to three tropical cyclones are likely to cross Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone during the 2020/2021 cyclone season.
