Water supply in parts of Suva and Lami will most likely normalise this weekend - WAF
Tamavua Water Treatment Plant

Thousands of people living in parts of Suva and Lami are experiencing intermittent to no water supply since yesterday afternoon.

Water Authority of Fiji says this is due to low raw water inflow from the Savura and Waimanu Raw Pump Stations to Tamavua Water Treatment Plant as a result of the prevailing weather conditions which is causing high turbidity levels or water to become murky.

They say that they have also received reports of blockages at Savura and their divers will only be able to fix the situation once the weather clears by the end of the weekend as they hope that by then floodwaters would have receded.

Affected areas include Delainavesi to Togalevu Naval Base, elevated areas in Samabula which include Votua Street, Moala Street, Lakeba Street and Lovoni Street, Nailuva Road, Rewa Street, Ratu Sukuna Road, Howell Road, Fulaga, Lakeba Street, Bureta Street, Ki Street in Wailoku, Sese Street, Kikau Street, Kula Street, Shalimar Street, Moti Street, Raiwasa, Lagilagi Housing, Kula Street, Waiqanake, Nabaka, Muaivuso and Namakala are also affected.

The Authority says due to the heavy rain, the multiple water flows into the treatment plant carry heavy sediments which add to the challenge they have to safely filter and treat water.

WAF says that they continue to ensure the safety of water and are meeting World Health Organisation standards.

The Authority says their engineers and technical teams are working to maintain operations at the pumping stations and treatment plants to sustain water levels in service reservoirs.

They are also advising customers residing in the areas above to use water wisely and to store water for their immediate needs during this temporary disruption period.
