WSL Football, which runs professional women’s football in England, has released new design guidelines to make stadiums more suitable for female players and fans.
The organisation says football grounds have long been designed with men in mind, and it wants new or upgraded venues to better meet the needs of women as the game continues to grow.
The guidelines were created with help from fans, clubs, players, coaches, and architects.
They include ideas such as improved changing rooms and toilets for women, parent and family areas, and breastfeeding spaces.
The WSL suggests that 45 percent of toilets should be for women, 45 percent for men, and 10 percent gender-neutral.
Other recommendations include adjusting seat sizes for comfort and offering alcohol-free seating areas for families.
WSL’s Head of Safety, Sustainability and Infrastructure, Hannah Buckley says female-specific stadiums have been a blind spot in football and that it is exciting to see so many people working together to make change happen.
