Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo has raised a point of order in Parliament, calling on Opposition MP Rinesh Sharma to withdraw his statement regarding drugs found in Auckland and to apologise to Parliament and the people of Fiji.
Vosarogo says what Sharma said yesterday was offensive to the integrity of the Parliament when he mentioned in his contribution that the discovery of 95kg of drugs, insinuating that it came from Fiji when it did not.
He says half of it came from Malaysia and half of it came from another country.
While speaking during the debate on Biosecurity Authority of Fiji’s 2011– 2013 annual report, Sharma had said that just two days ago, 90 kilograms of methamphetamine was caught at Auckland Airport.
He said the Coalition Government is in power for more than two years now, and it is an absolute failure on their part of securing our borders, in terms of our domestic points of entries.
While responding to his statement, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Lenora Qereqeretabua had clarified that the first intercept of 50.2 kilograms of methamphetamine at Auckland Airport was off a flight from Malaysia while the second intercept was off a flight from Los Angeles.
Speaker of Parliament Filimone Jitoko says he will deliver his ruling tomorrow.
