Villagers of Dromuna in Tailevu now have electricity through a $10,000 solar-electrification project by the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset.

Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset President, Vinod Mistry says these villagers have been deprived of electricity access over the past years.

Mistry says every child in the village will now be able to study in the evening and villagers will be able to hold important meetings and functions at night.

He adds villagers will also be able preserve their perishable goods in a chest-freezer that they will supply.

Mistry further says villagers will also connect more and better with friends and families as they will be able to charge their mobile phones and other devices.

A one kilowatt hybrid solar system has been installed in their village hall and the system includes solar panels, inverter units, storage battery, lights and power outlets in the hall.

20 houses and a primary school is being powered through this solar system.
