Remembrance Day was commemorated this morning at the National War Memorial on Battery Road in Nasese, Suva, where close to a hundred people gathered to honour those who have fallen in the line of duty.
Among those in attendance was Simione Koroi from Lomanikoro, who served in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for 33 years after joining in 1987.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Koroi says today holds deep significance for him and for all who have served.
Koroi says those who have fallen had given their lives so people can have their tomorrows.
He expressed his hope that Remembrance Day would one day be declared a public holiday, allowing Fijians across the country to take time to reflect and pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The veteran also shared words of encouragement for both aspiring and current servicemen and women.
He says for those who want to join the army, nothing is impossible and to those who are currently serving, they are the security of the nation.
The solemn ceremony featured the laying of wreaths, moments of silence, and the traditional playing of the Last Post, a reminder of the bravery and selflessness of those who served and continue to serve Fiji in the defence of peace and freedom.
