The Water Authority of Fiji stresses that there are no plans in place to release water from the Vaturu Dam and they would like to correct the fake news that is currently circulating on social media with regards to the opening of the Vaturu Dam.

WAF clarifies that Vaturu does have a spillway that acts as the overflow control for the Dam that channels excess water into the Nadi River, when the dam level is at maximum.

The Authority confirms that the Vaturu Dam has been operating at the maximum level since 4th January, 2022 and the spillway is active due to the ongoing rainy weather.

WAF urges members of the public to always be cautious of any information from non-official sources, as they could be false and misleading, and to always verify information with the proper authorities.
