Two lives have been lost in a landslide which occurred at the Namosi Quarry in Mau Village, Namosi yesterday afternoon.

This has been confirmed by the Minister for Disaster Management and Meteorological Service, Jone Usamate.

Usamate says four people were trapped in the landslide however one person from Nadarivatu, Rakiraki managed to escape while the other person is still trapped in the landslide.

He says the two people that have lost their lives are from Tavua and Rakiraki and all of them were working at the Namosi Quarry.

Usamate says they are handling the matter with the police and the recovery process has been called off due to bad weather.

He says efforts to retrieve the body will resume once the weather clears.

Usamate is advising people to adhere to warnings and refrain from crossing floodwaters as a heavy rain warning is still in force for the whole of Fiji.
