Trial date set for former radio announcer charged with manslaughter

The trial of former radio announcer Pio Ratuwaqa who allegedly killed a woman while drunk will begin on the 1st of September.

He is charged with a count each of manslaughter and driving while having alcohol in excess of the prescribed limit.

Ratuwaqa is alleged to have been involved in a road accident which occurred along Nasese in Suva at 1am on 30th March last year where he allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road at Gardiner Place.

The 26-year-old woman who was the passenger was rushed to the CWM Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ratuwaqa's bail has been extended.
