Several rural roads in the Northern Division have been closed due to heavy flooding, posing a serious risk to members of the public who will be travelling today.
The Fiji Roads Authority says the closures include routes such as Banikea Crossing in Lekutu, Bua, Qelemumu Low-Level Crossing in Labasa, and multiple crossings in Seaqaqa, including Buavou, Lalakoro, and Zailav, as well as the Kawakawavesi Crossing.
The FRA says as floodwaters continue to rise, they are urging all motorists to exercise extreme caution when travelling through these areas.
They say authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates to ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, a Flash Flood Warning remains in force for all low-lying, flash flood-prone areas and small streams of Vanua Levu and parts of Viti Levu including Naitasiri Province, Tailevu through Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba and Lautoka.
The Nadi Weather Office says a Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for the Northern Division, Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups.
They say an active trough of low pressure with an embedded low pressure system lies over the eastern parts of the group which is associated with clouds, showers and rain.
The Weather Office says the trough of low pressure is expected to affect the Eastern parts of Fiji till later tonight.
Local residents are advised to stay informed and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
