Trashboom project restores hope for Nabukalou Creek

Trashboom project restores hope for Nabukalou Creek

After years of pollution, Nabukalou Creek is on the path to restoration, with the Trashboom Project already intercepting plastic waste and debris just hours after installation, offering hope for a cleaner Suva.

Funded by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the initiative aligns with the Government's efforts to tackle urban pollution and protect waterways for future generations.

A Environmental Officer says the Trashboom prevents waste from reaching the ocean, but real change comes when people stop littering.

The Suva City Council plans to enhance the area with support from stakeholders and NGOs, making it a cleaner, more inviting space.

With early success, the project signals a promising step toward restoring Nabukalou Creek and fostering a greener Fiji.
