Thousands of Christians across Fiji are today celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a central event in Christian belief that marks Jesus rising from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion.

While delivering his Easter message this morning, the Head of the Raiwaqa Methodist Church Sector, Reverend Bola Waqalevu, says the day symbolises victory over sin and death, offering hope and spiritual renewal to believers.

Waqalevu highlighted that this event is celebrated as Easter, which often falls around the same time as the Jewish Passover, since Jesus’ crucifixion occurred during the Passover week.

Passover commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, as told in the Book of Exodus.

It serves as a reminder of freedom, deliverance, and God’s faithfulness—values that resonate deeply with both Jewish and Christian communities.

Reverend Waqalevu explained that while the resurrection took place during Passover, the Jewish Passover itself is rooted in Jewish history and faith.

He added that both Passover and Easter bring messages of hope and new beginnings, and serve as powerful reminders of faith, resilience, and God’s enduring love for humanity.
