Thousands of people gathered at the National Stadium in Honiara, Solomon Islands, yesterday for the opening of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.

The opening ceremony, led by representatives from the country’s nine provinces, showcased Solomon Islands’ rich cultural heritage through traditional songs, dances, and gift presentations, warmly welcoming visiting heads of state, prime ministers, and senior government officials.

Leaders from the 18 member states, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, attended the official opening of the region’s annual gathering.

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele highlighted the importance of Pacific solidarity, unity, and collective action in tackling the challenges facing the region.

Manele says the forum provides leaders with the opportunity to consider key regional issues, develop collective responses, and advance their vision for a resilient Pacific marked by peace, security, social inclusion, and prosperity—ensuring that Pacific people can lead free, healthy, and productive lives.

He says the meeting also allows Fiji to reaffirm its commitment to collective action on issues such as climate justice, sustainable ocean management, regional security, and economic resilience.
