There should be no tolerance for such dangerous messages in a multiracial and multicultural democracy like our beloved Fiji.

This was highlighted by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali who once again asks political candidates, leaders and public commentators to refrain from making incendiary statements that cause panic and fear amongst the general public.

She says the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre strongly condemns misinformation and statements by the Hindu Post as well as Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s utterances on land issues at a rally in Nausori where he said “that type of talk will lead to people getting hurt and murdered, blood will spill, and there will be uprising from the people”.

Ali says that these can incite bigotry, and racial intolerance and exacerbate tensions around race relations and both instigators should be taken to task.
