SODELPA MP Adi Litia Qionibaravi says their chiefs had given their approval for the use of their surplus land to be leased for the development of the nation and the onus is on government to ensure that the first people of Fiji benefit from the use of their surplus land.

Qionibaravi says this is the most important giving or the solisoli by Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna and the chiefs of Fiji.

She says members of parliament also have an important role in ensuring the rights of the first people of the land are protected and they benefit from the use of their land.

Qionibaravi says the two remaining major races in the country are the indigenous Fijians who are the first people in the nation and their Indian brothers.

Acting Attorney General, Faiyaz Koya says the current constitution protects iTaukei land for good.

Koya says most importantly, 60% of signatures of a land owning unit is required before the land can be deposited in the land bank.
