Teachers are being encouraged to list their spouses as nominees in the event of their passing.
This call was made by the President of the Fijian Teachers Association Netani Druavesi who emphasized the importance of ensuring spouses are financially protected in such situations.
He noted that while most male teachers tend to nominate their wives, many female teachers do not list their husbands as nominees— something he finds concerning and difficult to understand.
The FTA President urged female teachers to consider nominating their spouses, highlighting the emotional distress it causes when grieving husbands come to claim entitlements, only to find they were not named as nominees.
In addition to this, discussions have been held this morning on medical coverage and allowances for teachers, particularly those serving in maritime areas.
The topics included medical and travel allowances, which remain a key concern for those in remote postings.
