Teachers' unions demand is 30% pay rise, we may not settle for anything less - Gounder

Teachers' unions demand is 30% pay rise, we may not settle for anything less - Gounder
Fijian Teachers Association and Fiji Teachers Union Spokesperson Muniappa Goundar.

Our demand remains the same, and the last resort will be to take industrial action.

This was highlighted by Fijian Teachers Association and Fiji Teachers Union Spokesperson Muniappa Goundar after both parties held a joint meeting at the FTA Boardroom this afternoon.

He says their demand remains the same with the 30 percent increase in teachers' salaries in comparison to an average of 66 percent that the politicians are getting.

Goundar says the teachers have not got what they are supposed to get for the past 17 years.

He says this is the time they must get together to see that the teachers get what they rightfully deserve.

The spokesperson says starting tomorrow, both General Secretaries will work together in setting up all the logistics and legal avenues to see that their demands will be met.

When fijivillage News questioned Goundar on what was discussed with the Minister when they had a meeting this afternoon, he said this was their monthly meeting, and nothing was discussed regarding their demands.
