Teachers around the country will be taking a vote on the 6th of July on whether to go on strike as their demand for a 30 percent pay increase has not been met.
Fijian Teachers Association and Fiji Teachers Union Spokesperson Muniappa Goundar says they filed their mandate for industrial action with the Ministry of Labour on Tuesday and a copy has been given to the Ministry of Education as well.
Goundar says teachers on 6th July from 8am to 6pm will be voting at 16 different venues around the country.
He says once they have the mandate, they will sit together and work out a possible date for strike if majority of the people vote for strike action.
Goundar says he is encouraging teachers to make their votes count.
