Police are currently investigating a man who allegedly claimed to be a Ministry of Employment officer and threatened a shop owner for cash in Tavua.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa says a report has been lodged at the Tavua Police Station.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Maritino Nemani says members of the public should ask for the officer's identification card for verification.

Nemani says officers are issued with staff and name cards for identification purposes. He also emphasized that as part of the Ministry’s cashless policy, all payments are being made using electronic fund transfer or internet banking to uphold transparency, accountability and prevent bribery or corruption risks among ministry officers.

Investigation continues.
