Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shamima Ali says talking about women’s human rights is political while responding to comments made about Ali and others by a Minister she termed as our Minister for Everything.

Ali made the comments at a Fiji Teachers Union discussion, and says a woman’s place is everywhere as the whole movement is political.

She went on to say that the general election is coming up and all different bills are also coming up.

Ali says her assessment is the space for human rights and democracy is shrinking.

Ali has also encouraged women to stand in the next general elections.

Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama will not make any comments on the comments made by Shamima Ali.

We have also sent questions to the Director of Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission, Ashwin Raj on Ali’s comments that the space for rights and democracy is shrinking.

Fijivillage is awaiting Raj’s response.
