Tacirua Transport Limited has been issued a defect order for a bus that ploughed into a house due to brake failure yesterday.

Land Transport Authority CEO Samuel Simpson says the company has to comply with the orders before their bus is permitted to be operated on the road again.

Simpson says after inspection, it was found that the mechanical handbrake of the bus was inoperative which is a serious failure of Tacirua Transport’s maintenance system.

He says the driver failed to carry out any pre-service checks before taking the bus on the road.

Simpson says incidents like these were the primary reason the Authority established rules and guidelines in the first place.

He says no one has the right to play with the lives of Fijians because of complete negligence or an unwillingness to spend time and money.

Simpson is urging all public service operators to properly maintain their vehicles and take all the necessary safety requirements seriously.
