Tabuya’s trial to be held in October
Politician Lynda Tabuya.

The trial date for politician Lynda Tabuya charged for an alleged malicious social media post has been set by Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili to be held from 12th to 16th October.

Tabuya who is a member of SODELPA (in suspension) had pleaded not guilty to one count of Malicious Act.

She was charged by Police for her post on social media in relation to COVID-19.

It is alleged that Tabuya posted on Facebook “Let’s get one thing straight Fiji, the government brought Coronavirus to Fiji. #StopBlamingThePeople #Criminal Negligence.”

Police Prosecutor Joseph Dixon said they intend to call 19 witnesses.

Tabuya is now represented by Adish Narayan who is the managing partner of AK Lawyers.

Narayan told the court that they intend to call two witnesses.

As part of her bail condition, Tabuya was ordered to deactivate her social media accounts for the duration of her case.

Tabuya's bail has been extended.

The case will be called again on 7th July 2020.
