Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali believes former Minister for Women Lynda Tabuya should not have presented the Matanigasau to the Government as she was not in the wrong.
While speaking to fijivillage News following the Reclaim the Night march in Suva City, Ali says she does not believe Tabuya should have been treated in that manner and we should have looked at the crime committed.
She further says what happened to Tabuya does not bode well for women, as technology-facilitated gender-based violence is a real issue for many.
Ali says that it was not a good example of how such situations should be handled.
The coordinator also says we need more good, progressive women in leadership throughout and if they are not, they will be made into feminists.
With the general elections next year, she hopes more women will stand up as candidates.
