Suspended police officer remanded in custody for the alleged accident near Navua Bridge

A suspended police officer who allegedly caused an accident on Queens Highway near Navua Bridge on Sunday night has been remanded in custody.

The officer appeared in the Navua Magistrates Court today.

He has been charged with a count each of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Police say a three month old baby remains admitted at the CWM Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the accident.

The three month old child’s mother and grandparents have been discharged from the hospital.

Police say the four were on their way from Suva to Lautoka when their vehicle was allegedly hit by another vehicle from the back.

According to Police, the suspended police officer who is alleged to have caused this accident was heavily intoxicated.

The case will be called again tomorrow.
