Student debt will be written off and merit-based scholarships will be provided - Rabuka

Student debt will be written off by the government and merit-based scholarships will be provided.

This was highlighted by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the fijivillage Straight Talk with Vijay Narayan when questioned on the Loan Scheme provided by the Tertiary Scholarship and Loan Services.

He says for people currently in the loan program, the Ministry has already worked out on whether they will continue and how it will be funded.

Rabuka says this will either be through scholarships to complete their program or through personal funding.

He also says if the universities do not like the progress of the students they can terminate their scholarship as well.

The Prime Minister says when the budget comes out this will be an allocation towards the completion of these courses.

He says new students will be the ones going into merit-based allocation scholarships.
