State maintains murder charge against man who allegedly killed a fellow villager in February this year

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says they will go ahead with the charge of murder against the man who allegedly killed a fellow villager in Tailevu earlier this year.

Defence lawyer, David Toganivalu had earlier told court that Setareki Ratatagia was willing to take a guilty plea for a reduced charge of manslaughter.

Ratatagia had pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

He allegedly assaulted Jaoji Dumu when he was waiting for a boat at the village seawall in Namuka, Bau in Tailevu.

Dumu was rushed to the Nausori Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case has been adjourned to the 13th of November for pre-trial conference.
