Fiji-born Wallabies player Henry Speight has been given an early release from the Queensland Reds and Rugby Australia to join French Pro D2 club Biarritz Olympique.
Speight will link up with the former European champions on a three-year deal later this year, but it is still unclear what part will Speight play in the Super Rugby Australia, which kicks off on July 3rd.
Speight was on contract with the Reds until 2021 but is being released from his contract early to take up the offer in France amid the uncertain nature of rugby in Australia.
The winger has played the majority of his career with the Brumbies but joined the Reds ahead of the 2020 season.
The 32-year-old says that he would like to take the opportunity to say a heartfelt and enormous thank you to the entire organisation and an elite Rugby program which is surrounded and upheld by quality people, who have a genuine care for the person and the professional.
He says that he is unbelievably grateful that their request was dealt with respect and that the organisation was ultimately sympathetic to the opportunity that lies in front of them.
Speight scored three tries for the Reds before the Super Rugby was suspended in March.
