The Sigatoka Riverbank Amphitheatre will be the stage upon which our communities’ stories will unfold, laughter echoes and where people will unite.

Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa highlighted this during the inauguration of the amphitheatre and expressed the importance of community engagement, cultural exchange and entertainment.

Nalumisa says the amphitheatre will accommodate a total of 350 seats and will boost revenue for the Sigatoka Town Council to rebuild its image as a tourist town.

The Minister has acknowledged the People’s Republic of China for the $90,000 grant where $37,000 was utilised for the construction of the amphitheatre while $53,000 will be used in the re-sealing of the tramline car park.

He says the venue is a testament to their commitment to the arts, to nurturing local talent and to provide a platform for self-expression.

Nalumisa says there are several challenges Sigatoka Town faces such as a low revenue base that impedes development and hinders the council from upgrading the town, high employee turnover, as people looking for better opportunities this is attributed to limited revenue which constraints expenditure of the Council while the Council is working with the Fiji Roads Authority to find a solution to traffic congestion.
