Shooting stars sighted in Fiji last night

Fijians were amazed by the celestial display last night as shooting stars also known as meteor shower lit up the skies in several parts of the country.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says the Eta Aquariids is one of the meteor showers visible during this time of year, occurs when tiny particles from comets or asteroids enter Earth's atmosphere at high speed.

They say these particles are tiny and disintegrate high in the atmosphere, posing no threat.

They add that while the peak has passed, people might still catch some in the pre-dawn hours for potentially more activity from this spectacular cosmic display.
