Leone Seveci flew down especially for 5-year-old son Tevita’s surgery.
Seveci says he discovered his son had Congenital Heart Disease after a screening team visited Naceva Primary School where Tevita was attending kindergarten.
He further says when he received the news in Brisbane that Tevita was to receive surgery, his son just asked him one thing and that was if he was coming.
The father of four quickly made arrangements with his boss in Australia and his partner encouraged him to be by 5-year-old Tevita’s side as it was a massive surgery.
He encourages all parents to get their children scanned instead of leaving it too late.
Also being discharged from the Sai Sanjeevani Children’s Heart Hospital yesterday was 3-year-old Charles from the Solomon Islands who made the trip across with his mom, Leonisa Seketala.
Seketala says it was quite difficult because she had to prepare Charle’s meals separately from the rest of the family.
The mother of four further says it was very challenging as she left her work to look after Charles full time.
She says in the Solomon Islands it is really hard, money is one of the biggest things and being given only a 2 week notice they had to scramble to try and get together $25,000 to cover their trip over and other expenses.
Seketala further says her husband was able to get a bank loan which made things so much easier for them.
Of her experience at the hospital, the mother of four says she was welcomed in and since her stay has been treated like family with other parents and kids from all over the Pacific region who are also there for surgeries for their children.
