Serua supports UNDRIP to benefit Indigenous resource owners in Fiji

Serua supports UNDRIP to benefit Indigenous resource owners in Fiji
iTaukei Affairs Board Deputy CEO Josefa Toganivalu

The Serua Provincial Council has agreed for Fiji to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

While speaking to fijivillage News, iTaukei Affairs Board Deputy CEO Josefa Toganivalu says this declaration is a benchmark for Indigenous people to receive benefits from the resources they own.

Toganivalu says they have seen that, with the current legislation, some operations do not benefit the resource owners.

He says if the new legislation is passed, UNDRIP can be used as a benchmark to ensure the benefits reach the i-Taukei.

The CEO says this declaration will also support the education of our children and establish businesses for i-Taukei to help uplift their standard of living.
