Save the Children Fiji says the biggest need for children who have been impacted by the recent flooding is food and they are receiving about 20 calls and messages a day from affected families.
CEO, Shairana Ali says based on discussions with various stakeholders, they know that children are still affected in their homes and evacuation centres.
She says there is also an ongoing need for those families that have lost all their groceries during the flood. Ali further adds there is also a risk of water-borne diseases and there is a likelihood that we will see an increase in the number of sick children because they have been exposed to flood waters.
The CEO adds they will be meeting with relevant stakeholders today to decide on what assistance they will be providing to the impacted families.
She says some assistance has already been provided by the National Disaster Management Office.
Ali adds they are also waiting for the initial damage assessment report from all the divisions.
