Sacred spaces of all faiths must be protected - Naivalurua

Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua says sacred spaces across all faiths must be protected, and the Fiji Police Force is taking proactive steps to prevent religious sacrilege.

Naivalurua made the statement in response to a question from Opposition MP Jone Usamate in Parliament, following recent acts of religious sacrilege, including one in Samabula.

He says the Police are working closely with religious leaders, civil society groups, and community organisations to promote vigilance and mutual respect.

Naivalurua says they are developing joint security protocols, conducting public awareness programmes, and fostering a shared commitment to the protection of all sacred spaces.

He confirms that customised security plans are being co-designed with Hindu religious leaders and similar templates will be made available to all faith groups.

Police have also increased patrols around key places of worship, which will continue during upcoming religious festivals.
