Royalty payments drop by about $100,000 in 2021 – FIPRA
FIPRA Chairman Eremasi Tamanisau

The Fiji Performing Rights Association has confirmed that the royalties that will be paid out to composers and artists next year will drop by about 50% compared to this year’s royalty payout.

FIPRA Chairman Eremasi Tamanisau says this is because of the downfall of 51.4% of licensing revenue.

Tamanisau says as a result, royalty payments this year will drop from about $200,000 to around $100,000.

He says the artists and composers knew that they needed to move forward as this was beyond their control because of the pandemic.

Tamanisau says they are glad to see that most of their members are using social media and the technology that is readily available to do live streaming and make money.

He says this is where people direct cash deposits into the bank, Mpaisa and My Cash accounts of the artists.

Tamanisau says they currently have 992 members.
