Roma villagers in Naitasiri are tired of raising the issues of their road conditions at district and council meetings where the only response they get is that the matter has been raised to the government.

While speaking to fijivillage News, the Turaga ni Koro of Roma, Apisalome Uluinamoto says they have been experiencing road issues for many years, not only for transportation purposesbut difficulties in transporting their products to the market.

Uluinamoto says because of this many people in the village have left and moved to urban areas due to the challenges they face.

He says whenever it rains, everything comes to a halt because crossing the river and accessing the road becomes a challenge.

Naitasiri Provincial Council Chairman, Ratu Jone Baledrokadroka says the Fiji Roads Authority has provided updates on what they did last year, and they will continue working with them.

Ratu Jone says there is a fund within the iTaukei Affairs to allocate resources for some of the roads in Naitasiri.

He says the council has been doing its best to ensure road access for all three villages in the interior of Naitasiri.

Meanwhile, iTaukei Affairs Board Deputy CEO, Josefa Toganivalu says the Roma Road was finance by iTaukei Affairs through the Extinct Mataqali Fund Scheme.

Toganivalu says they took on the project because the FRA had no plans for Roma over the next five years.

The Deputy CEO has confirmed that work has started, and the Ministry of Works will complete the project.
