Some of the roads that have a lot of potholes have gone past their serviceability life span and they need to be totally rehabilitated.

This was highlighted in parliament by the Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate when questioned by SODELPA MP Niko Nawaikula if he can explain why are there still so many potholes on our roads.

Usamate says because FRA does not have the funds and contractors to rehabilitate all roads, they will have a program to rehabilitate some and those that are not going to conduct works immediately, they just try to patch them up until they come to a time where they can rehabilitate.

When questioned by SODELPA MP Peceli Vosanibola on quality control measures used by the Fiji Roads Authority on the improvement of roads around the country, Usamate says FRA has quality control measures with standards that ensure that these contractors adhere to them.

When further questioned by Vosanibola if they have a timeline or a plan on the rehabilitation of roads in Kadavu, Vanuabalavu, Lakeba and Gau, Usamate says these roads are done in periodic maintenance and there will come a time where these roads will eventually be fixed according to their plan.
