The Consumer Council of Fiji is urging traders to exercise responsibility by refraining from selling food and other perishable items which have gone bad due to effects of the cyclone.
CEO Seema Shandil says power failure was experienced by the entire nation during the cyclone and there are some areas in the North and West that are still without electricity.
Shandil says past experiences reveal that many businesses have made unscrupulous attempts to profit from the sale of damaged goods by selling them at low prices.
She says they should do the right thing by destroying food items and meat that have been affected because of power outage and floodwaters.
Shandil has also urged customers to refrain from purchasing these products as there may be possible contamination.
