Residents raise concerns after a man has sustained minor injuries this afternoon following an accident along Hibiscus Highway in Savusavu, due to the poor conditions of the road.
Another passenger involved in the accident was unharmed.
The Savusavu Police Station confirmed that the injured man received treatment and has been discharged.
The residents who live along Hibiscus Highway are calling on the Fiji Roads Authority to urgently address the deteriorating road conditions, saying this can lead to the loss of life.
They say they are relieved that the two people escaped serious harm, however, they are deeply concerned about the ongoing risks because of the road condition.
This is the second accident linked to poor road conditions this year.
In a separate incident, a 12-year-old boy lost his life after falling from a moving carrier.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu said that the boy was travelling with other youths along Natadola, seated on the back tray of a carrier.
Driu says they drove through potholes, which had caused the student to fall out of the moving vehicle and landing on the tarseal road.
