A "blue" supermoon has appeared in the sky overnight, with people from around the world capturing the rare phenomenon.
Supermoon is the nickname used when there is a full moon during the time the Moon is closest to Earth.
Because it was closer to Earth than usual last night, the Moon also appeared larger than it usually does.

The Moon is described as "blue" when it's the second full moon that falls within a calendar month.
Despite it being a "blue" supermoon overnight, the Moon looked orange when it crept up behind the Galata Tower in Turkey.
NASA says blue moons usually only happen about once every two and a half years.
The supermoon will also be visible tonight. In order to get a decent look at the Moon, it is best to look east at dusk.
The last supermoon of the year will be on September 29.
