Raiwaqa and Mavua Bridges in Sigatoka flooded

People living in Mavua and Raiwaqa settlements in Sigatoka have been advised to refrain from crossing the Mavua and Raiwaqa Bridges as they are flooded.

Nabitu Advisory Councilor, Abhay Sharma says they started experiencing heavy rain at around 2 this morning.

Sharma says Raiwaqa Bridge has been underwater since yesterday.

He is urging people to take precaution and adhere to warning and alert issued the Nadi Weather Office.

A Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for the whole of Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti groups while a Heavy Rain Alert remains in force for the rest of the Fiji.

The Nadi Weather Office says an active trough of low pressure which is associated with clouds and rain continues to affect the country.

They say the weather is expected to ease in the weekend.

A Flash Flood Warning remains in force for all low-lying flood prone areas of the Western and interior of Viti Levu including Momi to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua, interior Ra and Tailevu North, and areas adjacent to and downstream of Ba, Nasivi (Tavua) and Nakauvadra (Rakiraki) Rivers.

Meanwhile, a Strong Wind Warning remains in force for the coastal land areas of the Western and Northern parts of Viti Levu including Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba through Tavua to Rakiraki and interior of Ba, Ra, Nadroga/Navosa, Serua/Namosi, Naitasiri provinces and Tailevu North, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Vatulele and Kadavu.
