Fijians living in and along Vatukacevaceva in Ra, Waimanu and Monasavu Hydro in Naitasiri and Korovou in Tailevu should continue to be cautious as the rainfall recorded over these areas was over 50 millimetres at 10 this morning.

The Nadi Weather Office says rainfall recorded in Vatukacevaceva reached 60.5mm, Waimanu recorded 52.0mm, Korovou recorded 80.5mm, and Monasavu Hydro recorded 61.5mm.

They say the heavy rain alert remains in force for the Eastern half of Viti Levu from Serua/Namosi through to Navua, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri and Ra, Northern Division, Central and Northern Lau and the Lomaiviti group.

The Weather Officer says a trough of low pressure with associated clouds and rain remains slow moving over Fiji.

It is expected to gradually move northwards later today and affect the group until tomorrow.

According to the Weather Office, low pressure can cause flash flooding in some low-lying informal settlements and communities, businesses, and Irish Crossings, which can lead to disruptions to traffic flow.

It can also cause surface flooding on streets, particularly in urban areas with poor drainage systems and reduced visibility.
