Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has apologised to FijiFirst MP Hem Chand and his wife for falsely claiming that Chand had appointed his wife as the head of a school while he was the Head of Human Resources with the Ministry of Education.

Radrodro had said yesterday that the criteria for recruitment of teachers is based on merit and assured that nepotism is not entertained like the former Head of Human Resources at the Ministry did when he recruited his own wife as the Head of School in Gurukul Primary School.

Chand had then raised a point of order stating that this is incorrect and Radrodro has to provide evidence or withdraw his statement.

He says his wife was promoted in 2019 and he became the Head of Human Resources in 2020.

While apologising in parliament today, Radrodro says Chand took up the Head of HR position in January 2020 and prior to that he held the position of Director Primary Education.

Radrodro says Chand may have had the knowledge of the appointments including Head of School and he leaves it to Chand's conscience all the appointment that was made during his term.

Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has implored the MPs not to personalise things.

He also thanked Radrodro for his brave effort.
