Rabuka reflects on Ratu Sukuna's legacy and calls for stronger leadership development
Speaking during Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations at Subrail Park in Labasa, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

As we celebrate the legacy of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says we should not wait for leaders to emerge on their own, therefore, we must make a deliberate decision and effort to identify and raise our children, mentor them, and walk alongside them from their formative years through to adulthood.

While speaking during Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations at Subrail Park in Labasa, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says this is a moment for us to reflect on the qualities that made him a revered statesman.

He says says Ratu Sukuna was shaped by the nurturing hands of a family with chiefly heritage, and his faith and education played a key role in laying the foundation for discipline, service, and leadership.

The Prime Minister says our duty today, as custodians of the Vanua, religion, and the Government, is to ensure that our children are guided in the same way, taught to serve, to lead with humility and to act with wisdom and compassion.

He adds the strength of tomorrow’s Fiji lies in how we raise our children today.

Rabuka says that our future depends on the wise use of our land, sea, and the resources given to us by God and these resources are the base and springboard from which we rise and on which we stand firmly today, as we work to diversify and strengthen our economy.
