Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the banning of all ferris wheel operations until further notice in the country after the recent incident at the Wairiki 7s.
Opposition parliamentarian Virendra Lal issued a statement calling for the shutdown of all amusement rides, pending a thorough investigation into the Wairiki 7s rugby tournament incident.
Lal says as the Shadow Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, he is deeply concerned about the severe lapses in oversight by the Occupational Health and Safety Department.
He says they need to strengthen the legislation governing amusement rides to ensure they are safe and that people do not get hurt or worse.
Lal stresses that the safety of Fiji’s citizens and children should not be compromised because these rides are too old.
